Friends of Vrindavan (FoV-India) was founded in 1997. Its founders felt that the ecological heritage of Braj, represented by the groves, Yamuna and the sacred Braj raj (dust) of Vrindavan is in great danger and desired to serve this sacred land by taking some concrete steps. FoV dedicates its services for the environment, with focus on conserving the ecological and cultural heritage of the Braj region focusing on Vrindavan. It mixes traditional methods and modern technology to sustain shared natural resources of Braj, the holy abode of the Divine Couple Sri Radha Krishna.
Vrindavan is literally losing its sacred ground to garbage, the ruthless cutting of trees and in their place a mindless concrete jungle is emerging. The infrastructure of the town cannot provide services to the vast numbers of pilgrims. There is an utmost need for preserving the swarupa(ambience) of this holy Dham. After 15 years of DhamSevaFoV has grown into a community enterprise, an enviro-regeneration and care based initiative, in tune with the spiritual values and the cultural traditions of Vrindavan.
FOV evolved a strategy to help alleviate the garbage collection problems in a financially self-sustaining way, which has been fairly achieved over the past 3 years under the VKPP project.
